Sacramento Bee: Trump says US might not defend some NATO members
Donald Trump says the United States under his leadership might not come to the defense of some NATO members if Russia were to attack them.

Trump tells The New York Times he would decide whether to protect the Baltic republics against Russian aggression based on whether those countries "have fulfilled their obligations to us."

In 2014, the 28-member alliance created a rapid-reaction force to protect the most vulnerable NATO members against a confrontation with Russia.

Trump also says in the Times interview that he would not criticize Turkey for cracking down on political opponents and restricting civil liberties.

Trump says the U.S. has no "right to lecture" other countries when "people are shooting policemen in cold blood."

UN was basically created to avoid WWIII - has worked so far.
NATO would be useless if US declared it no longer honors the treaty/principle that all countries defend one attacked.

Year by year there's been increasing talk about Finland (and Sweden) joining NATO, but if Trump got elected and did this... not going to happen. Meanwhile, EU military cooperation would increase considerably and that would further divide NATO.

I am not surprised as he has been accused of similar behavior in regards to his businesses. He will pay you for work done unless he in his opinion don't like the quality of your work then he won't pay you a dime and will even go to court to fight paying for work he agreed to pay you for. It appears he thinks he can do the same thing on the world stage and not care in the slightest if it causes us to suffer greatly due to his belief that his opinion is more important then any promises made now or in the past and people think he would be great for the US if he got elected? lol

Don't forget: Trump's campaign manager once worked for Ukrainian strongman Yanuokovich for several years, so he's also got an affinity for strongmen...

Well Trump did voice support for Putin who is a strongman himself so it's only natural that a candidate would surround himself with people who share his views to at least some extent. Perhaps Trump wants to be a strongman for the US hence why he is running for office? lol

I hear that Mr. Trump himself is physically very strong and tough although I believe Putin has more of a martial arts background!

So they mean that Mr. Trump would continue the policies of Mr. Obama and allow NATO treaty member countries be attacked by ISIL and other enemies and do little or nothing to defend them.

Sounds right.

ISIL's one thing, Doc....Russia? That's a whole other ball of wax...then again, given Trump's history of praising strongmen like Putin and Erdogan, we better hope Hillary wins in November...

You mean like Mr. Obama stepped up and backed the Ukraine when they came screaming to the UN about that little dust up over the Crimea?

The way the Russians pulled that little coup de main off, with the little green men and all that? Ukraine's not a NATO member per se', so Article 5 wouldn't apply there.

Now if Russia were to try and attack Poland or the Baltics....Obama's dense as hell, Doc, but he ain't that freaking dense...

That's not how it works, you stupid twit! There's a reason they call it collective security...but hey, since you seem to love bigots, strongmen and authoritarians, this doesn't surprise me a bit....:mad::mad:
Fuuck you and keep and your insults to yourself. That is exactly how it works we pay for most of it. Most of the equipment is ours so we do not need to be in it.

Got to wonder how it would be with Finland. On one hand, Finland is no closer to NATO than Ukraine. But on the other, EU has defense agreements (though not as clear as Article 5) that would likely involve most NATO countries into the situation.
