It's actually closer to an ellipsoid. How do we know that? How do we calculate the distances between places on different sides of the globe? How do pilots know which direction to head when they're over the ocean with no landmarks? Enter Geodetics Engineering.

I looked at that general idea a few years ago.

It was a fascinating bit of research that took some unexpected detours.

well it kinda does make sense since the earth orbit around the sun is slightly elliptical

These day with so many ideas floating around about what the earth is at time you start to wonder who has the right one. I tend to just go with the traditional that the earth is roundish shape.
