There's a hockey team that in 70's glory days came one game away from getting to play in the championship league. Eventually it was united with neighbor town team and yet later re-established as a sort of farm of the combined team. I think they now play on 3rd and 4th tier leagues. (I'd say 2nd tier can be called semi-professional.)
The local soccer team has never been even that high.
I'm not in the city, but it's not too far away. Two professional hockey teams, two professional baseball teams, professional basketball, football and soccer. Pro women's basketball probably other women's leagues... and other semi-pro and minor leagues dotted all over the place. There is a minor league baseball team nearest me that is so much fun to go to and cheap.
