I'd want to get it appraised and try to find a buyer.

That would be a pain in the ass though.

I wonder how long it would sit on Ebay and collect dust before someone decides to blow 500 dollars on it.

Not $500. Half a million for a rare penny.

I think someone would have it if it’s been valued that rare. Would sell up straight away. Buy two homes so no mortgage on them. Live in one and rent the other out, extra income every month.

The 1838-O Capped Bust Half Dollar will be auctioned on Friday in Baltimore by auction house Stack's Bowers Galleries. Another 1838-O half dollar coin sold for $763,750 in 2014. Most recently, one fetched $444,000 at a Florida auction last January.
I'd wait to sell what the highest bid is and then decide whether or not to keep it.
