"Grinning as he walks from court, this thug has been spared jail for pushing his girlfriend out of a moving car when she was pregnant.
Robert Porter, 25, was seen driving erratically in St Helens, Lancashire, because he was hitting his girlfriend while at the wheel of his Fiat Punto.
His lawyer said that he was ‘totally ashamed’ of the way he treated the mother of his two children, yet he didn’t appear that way as he walked out of Liverpool Crown Court.
A judge heard that they had started arguing when he told girlfriend Joanna Brophy that he would not take her out because he was low on fuel.
She told Porter that she didn’t love him so he pushed and kicked her until she fell out of the moving car, landing on her stomach and knocking her out.
David Lane, who saw what happened chased Porter’s car and confronted him at a petrol station before trying to perform a citizen’s arrest.
Porter tried to punch Mr Lane then threatened him with a paint scraper before running off.
Porter was given a 19 month prison sentence suspended for two years after pleading guilty of ABH, dangerous driving and possession of an offensive weapon. He was ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service.
Miss Brophy was treated for cuts and bruises neither she nor the unborn baby were injured.
Kyra Badman, defending him, said: ‘He is totally ashamed of the way he treated the mother of his two children.’"
